How to Set Yourself Up for Success on Sundays
Ah the weekends. For many of us who work Monday through Friday, weekends are devoted to friends, family, and fun. All great ways to de-stress from your hectic workweek – although lately, with so many of us continuing to work remotely all or some of the time, the lines between workweek and weekend have tended to blur. Whether you’re home all the time, or you head into an office or workplace Monday through Friday, it’s a great idea each Sunday to set yourself up for success for the week to come. (Full credit for this blog idea to my daughter, who has found her “Set Yourself Up for Success Sundays” to be a helpful tool to managing the stress of the workweek). It doesn’t have to take hours out of your day, so you’ll still have time for pleasurable weekend activities.
There are many benefits to carving out time each Sunday to undertake activities of daily life that would either go undone (and become annoying little guilt traps) or would need to be squeezed into your already busy weekdays or weeknights, adding to your stress levels. Some of these benefits include a sense of accomplishment, more time to focus on tasks, better opportunities to incorporate healthy habits, and providing time for that little pause in which you can make intentionally better choices.
To get you started, here is a partial list of Success Sunday’s activities that you can consider incorporating into your life.
- Meal prepping – Shopping, chopping, and packaging some meals for the week lets you make healthy choices with the luxury of time and not make a bad decision in the moment that you’ll regret later. Some things that are easy to prep include salads in a jar, overnight oats, healthy muffins, individually packaged healthy snacks, cut up fruits and vegetables, marinated meats, and hard-boiled eggs, to name a few. - Deep cleaning at least one room each week — This could be a solid deep cleaning or even a decluttering.
- Putting away laundry that piled up during the week.
- Setting and calendaring an exercise schedule for the week — This might include booking times for a class or arranging with a friend to exercise together. We recommend making an appointment with yourself for designated exercise time by entering that into your calendar, causing you to treat it with the importance it deserves.
- Making or updating “to do” lists to prioritize things you need to do in the coming weeks This should include any appointments or calls you need to make. Equally important is checking off completed items from the week prior to give yourself an extra sense of accomplishment.
- Clean out your car or take it to the car wash.
- Straighten and organize your home desk.
These are only a few ideas, and we’d love to hear more from you in our comments section. Wishing you intentionally successful Sundays.
